WE ALL NEED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY!!
WE ALL HAVE 24 HOURS IN A DAY!
How will you spend those hours?
Can you spare 5 minutes to watch this video?
Then take a look at the options below to keep you active!
As a school we have access to an organised sports competition, but what about parents, staff, young children and our friends that want to be active? We all need to find some time each day to move our bodies in order to be healthy and physically strong. We all have the same number of hours in a day to complete our work, house tasks, family time etc. Putting aside a little of this time each day is an investment into your physical/mental health, your family and your friendships.
When we first came to Cambodia it was right in the middle of COVID. It was tricky to find many activities, but I did find a little group of like minded runners who had recently started Phnom Penh Athletic Club. Weekly we would meet down near the Riverside in the hope that no one would stop us from running. It was such a lovely way to get to know people and I treasure those very early mornings and long bike rides or tuktuk rides to meet with others and move my body! In 2025 there are SO many groups just like the one I found years ago who gather to run, walk, play frisbee, play football and more.
One of the many things our family has enjoyed while being in Cambodia is participating in the local FUN RUNS that are scattered across Cambodia. Many families regularly participate in runs such as; AIA Pink Run in Phnom Penh, Elephant Trail Run in Kirirom, Angkor Wat Half Marathon in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh Half Marathon, SuSu Charity Runs in various locations, Paddy Field Trail Runs (location changes every year), Phnom Penh International Aquathon at Morodok Stadium and more.
The aim of this page is to help our HOPE Community access the information to sign up and get involved or perhaps contact someone and join in a more casual activity. Physical Activity is a wonderful way to not only look after our physical bodies, but meet and connect with others. We hope you find a positive way to enjoy exercise while living in Cambodia!
If you have an activity you would like to add below, please let me know! lorinda.wishart@hope.edu.kh
This is a FREE 5km or 3.2km timed run every Saturday at 7am in New World Borey next to Wat Samroung Andet. We stay in touch via a Messenger Group and keep track of our race times on a website designed by a previous IT Manager at HOPE, Mr Matthew LS. Sometimes there is only a few runners and sometimes more than 20!
ALL ages, ALL abilities, runners, walkers, bikes, roller blades and dogs on leads are ALL welcome! As with regular Parkrun we encourage parents to run with their small children unless they are very familiar with the course. We also don't have official volunteers each week so it is helpful if you have a watch and can time yourself so we can keep track of your progress.
Borey New World, Wat Samroung Andet is located next door to Wat Samroung Andet in Phnom Penh Thmei, Khan Sensok. The borey has two gates on street 1098. Enter via the centre gate next to Setra Supermarket and then take the first right onto street 1. The meeting point is at the park at the western end of street 1, near the permanently closed gate.
