Sports Safety
Football requirements
The ISSAPP Handbook states the shin pads and grass football boots are compulsory for all ages at tournaments and friendly games. HOPE has extended this to training due to the risk of injury when some are wearing football boots and some are not.
Around competition time, often the primary sports suppliers in Cambodia run out of boots in popular sizes. You are encouraged to plan ahead to ensure your child has the correct safety equipment.
From the ISSAPP Handbook 22-23
"Jewellery is not permitted. This includes chains, bracelets, watches, rings and earrings (exception: small studs when taped). One warning will be given per player, from an official. If jewellery is not removed, the player will be asked to leave the game.
Each player will be required to wear protective shin guards.
Only plastic or rubber cleats are allowed to be worn."
Wearing glasses
In 2022 ISSAPP decided to come in line with many international organisations and mandate sports glasses for all ages OR contact lenses. This rule applies to basketball, volleyball and football. The new ruling is to prevent injury to the player, team mates and opposition. We are aware that this poses an increased financial burden to families. Please let us know if this is a challenge for your family. Sports glasses are specifically made from rubber and plastic that can not shatter as glass can.
There are now three suppliers in Phnom Penh offering these glasses.

Volleyball
Volleyball doesn't have any specific safety regulations, but we encourage students to purchase knee pads. They cost under $10 and allow students to slide and dive without serious damage to their knees. (In most cases!)
Jewelry
No jewellery is to be worn in competition at ISSAPP events. The exception is newly pierced studs that can be taped. HOPE encourages that players to abide by this in training as well to prevent rings being stuck on fingers and ear lobes being torn! Not fun for anyone!!
This rule includes all jewellery; friendship bracelets, earrings, necklaces, watches and any piercing.
